Hey guys, has anyone tried using the Makita XCU06SM1 chainsaw on hardwood? I'm considering getting one for some home projects and would like to know if it's suitable.

Yeah, I've used the Makita XCU06SM1 on hardwood before. It worked well for me, but you may need a bit more effort compared to softer materials.

Solution

Thanks, @dcerisano! The 78.67 FPS chain speed seems decent for my needs, but I'm still a bit worried about the lower maximum voltage of 18 volts.

That's a valid concern, @Rob-A-Tron. However, you can also consider other factors like the battery capacity and brushless motor for overall performance. The Makita XCU06SM1 has a 4 Ah battery which should provide decent runtime.

Right, and it might be worth mentioning that higher chain speeds don't necessarily guarantee better cutting performance on hardwood. You'll likely need to adjust your technique depending on the material you're working with.

True, @dcerisano. I've found that practice and experience play a significant role in using chainsaws effectively, regardless of their specs.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I'll go ahead and give the Makita XCU06SM1 a try on some lighter tasks first. If it works out well, I'll consider it for hardwood projects too.
