I've been looking at getting a sander for some DIY projects and came across the Craftsman CMCW220B. Has anyone used it or have any thoughts on it?

That's true. The TechReviewer article Overview of the Craftsman CMCW220B Sander talks about this in detail, especially how brushless motors adapt to tasks at hand and adjust their power output based on the material being sanded.

Yeah, I've had one for a while now and it's worked great for me! It's light and easy to handle which makes it perfect for smaller jobs around the house. The only downside is that it's not brushless.

That's true, my wife uses hers all the time for painting and sanding small pieces of furniture. She loves the ergonomic grip but I think she would prefer a brushless motor.

I have been using the CMCW220B for a few months now and it's served me well on a variety of projects. The TechReviewer article Overview of the Craftsman CMCW220B Sander gives an overview of its features which might help you decide if it's right for your needs.

Thanks, @ActuallyMaarten, @HelloMisterOwl, and @Sarallelism. I was looking at the TechReviewer article as well and found it quite useful. The specs seem decent for my requirements but I'm still unsure about the brushed motor. Any advice on whether this is a deal-breaker for anyone here?

It's not a deal-breaker for me, but I would prefer brushless if I had the choice. The Craftsman CMCW220B does a good job and it's compact size makes it very maneuverable.

Same here, I'm happy with my brushed motor sander. For my usage, it works perfectly fine. But I can see how a brushless motor could be more efficient in the long run.

Solution

Thanks for all the input everyone. I think I'll give it a try and see if it works for me. If I end up needing more power, I can always look into getting a brushless option down the line.
