DeWalt DCD799 Battery Life?

I'm thinking about picking up a DeWalt DCD799 cordless drill for some upcoming projects. Can anyone give me some insights on the battery life? I've heard mixed reviews.

Thanks for sharing your experience, @ethinker. I read a great article about the DeWalt DCD799 drill in TechReviewer Overview of the DeWalt DCD799 Drill that provided some insight into its battery life and performance. According to the article, the 20-volt motor can impact battery life since higher power requirements will drain the battery faster.

I've been using the DCD799L1 model for a few months now and I love it! The 3 Ah battery has given me plenty of power for all my projects so far, but it does drain fairly quickly when doing more intense work like drilling into concrete or metal. However, recharging time is pretty quick.

Solution

That's interesting! Thanks for sharing the link, @catmantown. I'll definitely check out that article. So it sounds like if I'm mostly doing light-duty tasks around the house, the DCD799 might be a good choice?

Yes, @Sneedlethebeetle, for most light to medium duty tasks, the DCD799 should do just fine! The 3 Ah battery is more than adequate for these types of projects.

I've been using a DeWalt drill for years now and have always been happy with their performance. I recently upgraded to the DCD799L1 and have been quite impressed. The power and precision are great, but as others have mentioned, you do need to keep an eye on the battery life during intense tasks.

I'm a professional contractor and have used the DCD799 for a few jobs now. It's a solid tool, but I've found that for heavy-duty work, especially in construction sites where power outlets aren't always readily available, a cordless drill with a bigger battery capacity is preferable.

Thanks everyone for your input! Based on what you've said, it seems like the DCD799 might be good for my needs, but if I find that I need more power for certain projects, there are other options out there. Appreciate all the advice!
