Drill Max Speed - Adequate?

Started by FlexiblePony on June 22, 2024

I'm looking for a new drill and was curious if 3,000 RPM max speed is enough for most tasks? Has anyone used the SKIL HD182001 before?

@Stuffedbunny, the TechReviewer article Overview of the SKIL HD182001 Drill suggests that it might not be the best choice for heavy-duty tasks like drilling through concrete. You might want to look at a more powerful drill for that.

That's a good question. For general use around the house, it should be more than adequate. What kind of projects are you planning to do with it?

I've been looking at the TechReviewer article Overview of the SKIL HD182001 Drill for an overview of this drill. It seems like the 7.5-amp motor would give me enough power for most tasks.

That's a great point! The amperage is definitely important too. Thanks, @erock0138.

Yeah, I agree with both of you. The SKIL HD182001 looks like a solid choice for light to medium-duty projects.

I'm planning on doing some renovations at my house and was wondering if this drill would be suitable for drilling into concrete or masonry? Any experience with that?

Solution

I think @FlexiblePony is right. If you're going to be doing a lot of heavy-duty work, you might need something with a higher amp rating or maybe even a cordless drill.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm still leaning towards the SKIL HD182001 because it's more affordable and portable. But I'll definitely keep the heavier-duty options in mind if I find myself needing them.

That sounds like a reasonable plan, @erock0138. I appreciate your advice!
