Ideal Settings for Bosch HD18-2 Wood Usage?

Started by josejenson on June 27, 2024

I'm looking to buy a new corded drill and I've been considering the Bosch HD18-2. Has anyone had any experience using it for woodworking tasks? I know it's got an 8.5 amp motor and a 1/2-inch chuck, but are there any other factors I should be aware of?

I've used the Bosch HD18-2 for some woodworking projects and it works great! The torque is sufficient for drilling into wood and driving screws. What kind of tasks are you planning to do with it?

I'm going to be doing a lot of basic carpentry work, like assembling furniture and installing shelves.

Thanks for the recommendation, @shemsheep! That sounds helpful. I'm still a bit unsure about the chuck size - would it be suitable for my needs?

The 1/2-inch chuck on the Bosch HD18-2 is great for woodworking tasks. It can accommodate various sizes of drill bits and it's secure, so you won't have to worry about your bit slipping while working.

That's good to hear! I'm also wondering if the weight of the drill might be an issue, as I'll be doing a lot of standing and moving around?

Thanks for the input everyone. The Bosch HD18-2 weighs 5.8 lbs., which is quite manageable for most people. If you're concerned about its weight, you could always try it out at a store to see how it feels in your hands.

Yeah, I agree with @josejenson. It's worth trying out before you buy if you have any concerns about the weight. The drill is quite powerful and should be able to handle most basic woodworking tasks without any problems.

Good luck with your decision, @josejenson! If you do end up getting the Bosch HD18-2, I'm sure you'll find it's a great tool for the job.

Thanks all! I think I'll head over to my local store and give it a try. Appreciate the advice!
