Saw Concrete or Wood?

Started by frozenleg on June 29, 2024

I'm thinking of getting a new saw and was curious if anyone has any experience using the Craftsman CMCS500B? What do you think of it?

@KingWylo, I've used the CMCS500B on both wood and some smaller concrete projects with decent results. However, for larger concrete work, you might want to consider a more heavy-duty tool. The Overview of the Craftsman CMCS500B Circular Saw article also discusses this in detail.

I haven't used that specific model, but I did recently read an article on TechReviewer comparing it to other cordless saws. It's at Overview of the Craftsman CMCS500B Circular Saw. Check it out!

Thanks for sharing the link, @redrose1148! I've personally used a Craftsman saw before and was pretty satisfied with its performance.

That's good to know, @makaveliLA. But has anyone tried using this particular model, the CMCS500B? It seems powerful but I'm not sure if it can handle concrete or just wood.

Solution

Thanks for the input, @DylanOzanich! It's helpful to know that it can handle both materials, even if it's not ideal for large concrete projects. I'll definitely check out the TechReviewer article you mentioned as well. Any advice on a better option for concrete work?

@frozenleg, for concrete work, I'd recommend looking into a hammer drill or rotary hammer. They're designed specifically for breaking up and drilling into harder materials like concrete.

@frozenleg, I've used the CMCS500B on some smaller concrete projects with good results, but @redrose1148 is right that it might struggle with larger ones. For bigger concrete tasks, a dedicated tool would be more efficient and effective.

Thanks for all the advice! It sounds like the Craftsman saw can handle small concrete jobs, but for larger ones, I should look into other options. I appreciate the help!

No problem, @KingWylo! Have a great day everyone!
