I've been looking at getting a new circular saw for some hardwood flooring work and came across the Skil SPT78W-01. Has anyone here used it before?

I wanted to share an article I found that gives a thorough overview of the Skil SPT78W-01 circular saw. It covers everything from its motor and blade size to its weight and dimensions. You can check it out at Overview of the Skil SPT78W-01 Circular Saw.

Yeah, I recently purchased one and have been really happy with it so far! It's quite powerful, and the 8-1/4 inch blade size is perfect for cutting through hardwood.

I've been using mine for a few months now, and while it works great on hardwood, I find it struggles when cutting other materials like metal. The power just isn't there compared to my old saw.

Thanks for sharing, @shrimpyd3! That article really helps clarify some of my doubts about this saw. The 15 amps and 8-1/4 inch blade size seem perfect for my needs. I'm still a bit concerned though about the weight - 18.5 lbs is pretty heavy for carrying around for long periods.

Yeah, it's definitely not the lightest option out there, but it does have a lot of power and accuracy which can make up for that.

I've been using this saw for both hardwood and some softwood work. The 4,700 RPM no-load speed really makes quick work of cutting softer materials. However, I do agree with @happilypermanent about the lack of power on other materials like metal. For general woodworking tasks though, it's been great.

Thanks everyone for your input! Based on what you've said, I think this saw might be a good fit for my specific needs. I'll probably order one and give it a try. Fingers crossed it performs as well in real-life scenarios as it seems to in reviews!
