Using Sander on Metal?

Started by ArjunVishwanath on July 01, 2024

I'm thinking of getting a Makita BO6030 for my woodworking projects. Has anyone used this sander before? What's the general consensus?

Thanks for the input! The article Overview of the Makita BO6030 Sander also mentions that the sander is not cordless and doesn't have a brushless motor. I guess I'll need to consider those factors as well when making my decision.

Yeah, I've been using it for a few months now and it works great! The random orbital action really does produce a smooth finish.

Overview of the Makita BO6030 Sander gives an excellent overview of the Makita BO6030. It has some impressive specs like a no-load speed of 4,000 to 10,000 OPM and an orbit diameter of 3.175 mm. I've used it on some wood projects and it performed really well.

That's good to hear! What about using it on metal? I'm planning to do some metalwork and wanted to know if this sander would be suitable for that too.

I haven't personally used the Makita BO6030, but from what I've read, it seems like it's best suited for wood. For metal, you might want to look into angle grinders or other tools designed specifically for working with metal.
