I've been considering getting a new random orbital sander and came across the Bosch GEX18V-5N. Has anyone here used it before? I'm curious about how well it works with variable speed control.
Variable Speed Control in Bosch GEX18V-5N?
Started by wemakepretend on June 29, 2024
Yeah, I bought one a few weeks ago and I'm quite happy with it so far! The variable speed control is really handy, you can adjust the sanding according to the material you're working on. It's pretty versatile.
Hey @wemakepretend, I've been using mine for about a month now and I can vouch for the variable speed control feature. It really comes in handy when you need more precision while sanding different materials. Also, there's an article that explains the GEX18V-5N features in detail, which might be helpful to you: Overview of the Bosch GEX18V-5N Sander.
That sounds great! Thank you all for your input. I'm still a bit unsure about whether it's powerful enough for my needs though. What do you think about the power rating of this sander?
It's definitely powerful enough for most DIY projects, but if you plan on using it professionally or for heavy-duty tasks, you might want to consider something with more juice.
I've used the Bosch GEX18V-5N for some professional work and found it adequate for smaller jobs. The variable speed control is really useful in those situations too.
That's good to know, thanks @lousiana. So overall, the power should be sufficient for my needs, but I'm still a bit unsure about the battery life. Can anyone comment on that?
Personally, I haven't had any issues with the battery life, but then again, I mostly use it for smaller projects. @lousiana, have you experienced any battery-related issues while using this sander?
To be honest, I did run into some battery life problems once when I was working on a larger project. But it wasn't a deal-breaker or anything, and the issue could've been due to user error or something else.
Thanks for all your input! I think I'll probably go ahead and get one. Any suggestions on where to buy one at a reasonable price?
I bought mine from Amazon, but you might want to check out other retailers too like Home Depot or Lowe's. They occasionally have discounts and promotions which can help you save some money.
Good luck with your purchase! And remember to read the TechReviewer article Overview of the Bosch GEX18V-5N Sander for a comprehensive overview of the GEX18V-5N features before making your decision.
