Variable Speed Control on DeWalt DCD701?

Started by Khornate84 on June 24, 2024

I'm looking at getting a DeWalt DCD701 drill and was curious if anyone has one or knows if it has variable speed control? I've been reading some reviews online but they seem a bit mixed.

I have the DeWalt DCD701, and it does not have variable speed control. However, it does offer a 0-450/1,500 RPM range which is pretty decent for a cordless drill. There's also an article on TechReviewer discussing its features in detail Overview of the DeWalt DCD701 Drill. You might find it helpful!

I didn't see that article before. It seems like the RPM range should be good enough for most tasks. Still, having variable speed control would have been nice for fine-tuning.

Yeah, I've used a DeWalt DCD701 and found it to be quite powerful, but I agree that variable speed control would make it even better. But honestly, the lack of it hasn't really bothered me in practice.

I'm also considering this drill. Does anyone have experience using it with hard materials like concrete? Is it suitable for such tasks?

I've been using my DeWalt DCD701 for a couple of months now and it's worked great for me so far. I haven't tried drilling into concrete yet, but I can say that it handles wood and metal just fine. As for the variable speed control, while it would be nice to have, I haven't found it to be a significant issue in my projects.

That's good to know! Thanks for sharing your experience, @CrissyEU. I think I might go ahead and get one.

@Khornate84, you won't regret it! The DeWalt DCD701 is an excellent drill and has a great battery life too. Just be prepared that there will be some learning curve when it comes to mastering the power settings without variable speed control. Good luck with your decision!

I've been using the DCD701 for about a year now, and I must say that while it's a solid drill, I do miss having variable speed control sometimes. It does the job well enough, but there are times when I wish I could adjust the speed on the fly.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @captainredbeard77. It sounds like having variable speed control might not be a deal-breaker for most people, but it's definitely something to consider if you're doing a lot of precise work or working with delicate materials.

@Khornate84, I hope this helps! If you decide to get the DeWalt DCD701, I'm sure you'll find that it's a great drill. Just remember to charge your battery beforehand so you don't run out of power mid-project!

That's true, @CrissyEU. And if you do need variable speed control, there are other models available in the market that offer it. It's always good to compare and find the best option for your specific needs.

I appreciate all the insights. Based on this discussion, I think I'll go ahead and give the DeWalt DCD701 a try.
